چکیده

The nurse rostering problem presents a combinatorial optimisation problem in which shifts must be assigned to nurses who are subject to a large number of workforce related constraints. In the literature on nurse rostering, the fairness of the constructed rosters has often been neglected. Solutions are typically evaluated by means of a weighted sum objective function which does not explicitly account for the fair distribution of individual high quality rosters. The present contribution aims at incorporating fairness measures in existing solution methods for the nurse rostering problem. Preliminary experimental results show that fairer solutions are obtained when applying the new fairness measures.

Cooperative search for fair nurse rosters

The development of decision support systems acceptable for nurse rostering practitioners still presents a daunting challenge. Building on an existing nurse rostering problem, a set of fairness-based objective functions recently introduced in the literature has been extended. To this end, a generic agentbased cooperative search framework utilising new mechanisms is described, aiming to combine t...

Duty Rostering in Public Transport - Facing Preferences , Fairness , and Fatigue

Duty rostering problems occur in different application contexts and come in different flavors. They give rise to very large scale integer programs which typically have lots of solutions and extremely fractional LP relaxations. In such a situation, heuristics can be a viable algorithmic choice. We propose an improvement method of the Lin-Kernighan type for the solution of duty rostering problems...

Nurse rostering using fuzzy logic: A case study

In this paper, we used the fuzzy set theory for modeling flexible constraints and uncertain data in nurse scheduling problems and proposed a fuzzy linear model for nurse rostering problems. The developed model can produce rosters that satisfy hospital objectives, ward requirements and staff preferences by satisfying their requests as much as possible. Fuzzy sets are used for modeling demands of...

A two-phase heuristic and a lexicographic rule for improving fairness in personnel rostering

A fair allocation of workload to people is crucial for securing job satisfaction. Researchers have introduced numerous objectives and algorithms to represent and improve fairness in personnel rostering problems. These approaches should not ignore the roster quality that is influenced by personnel rostering constraints, such as maximum working times, minimum rest times, etc. The present paper pr...

Solving a nurse rostering problem considering nurses preferences by graph theory approach

Nurse Rostering Problem (NRP) or the Nurse Scheduling Problem (NSP) is a complex scheduling problem that affects hospital personnel on a daily basis all over the world and is known to be NP-hard.The problem is to decide which members of a team of nurses should be on duty at any time, during a rostering period of, typically, one month. It is very important to efficiently utilize time and effort, ...
